- Expression of Interest are invited for Consultancy for the Development of Best Possible Legal Framework to Implement the Voluntary Registration for Aripo Taking into Account Other Aspects of Copyright and Related Rights. The African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) is an Intergovernmental Organization created in 1976 under the Lusaka Agreement concluded under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Membership of the organization is open to all states members of the African Union (AU) or of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The present members of the Organization are: Botswana, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. (Total: 19 states) At the Forty-First Session of the Administrative Council held in Lilongwe, Malawi, on 20 to 22 November 2017, the Council adopted the recommendation to develop Legal Framework to implement the voluntary registration for ARIPO taking into account other aspects of Copyright and Related Rights. The Administrative Council approved the roadmap to engage a consultant(s) to develop the Legal Framework. This decision requires the Secretariat of ARIPO to engage the consultant to undertake the task. ARIPO therefore seeks to engage the services of a Consultant(s) (this can be a company or individual(s)) to undertake the development of a broader Legal Framework to anchor Copyright and Related Rights within ARIPO system that will encompass the Voluntary Copyright Registration and Notification for ARIPO. The Consultant should have minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Laws or Social Sciences, Masters/ Postgraduate degree in Intellectual Property, with at least seven years experience in Copyright and Related Rights and Regional experience will be an added advantage. Experience in research, analytical and drafting skills, have an understanding of the development priorities and challenges in Copyright and Related Rights within ARIPO Member States, have undertaken similar studies in Copyright and Related Rights and/or Creative Industries.
